Youth Opportunities
The Junior Sizzler program will carry on the same basic principles and youth related goals previously established and put in motion by Thompson's HOOP Service program (Helping Out Other People), a boys and girls youth services and basketball organization which he established in 1997.
The establishment of Junior Sizzlers’ after school and summer programs stimulates each participant's ability to problem solve and work effectively with others through athletic opportunities, fostering proper assertiveness, enhanced communication skills, confidence, discipline, and teamwork.
Participation in our Junior Sizzlers youth program is not based upon one's ability to pay or play, but rather on one's commitment to education and wanting to be a productive citizen.
This commitment requires dedication to self-discipline, hard work, respect for others and helping peers achieve their potential on and off the playing fields. These principles teach our youth to look beyond themselves by reaching out to others who have less, whether it be less money, skill, or confidence.
The Junior Sizzlers will not only have summer camps and clinics to entertain them during the summer months but will also take part in our “Back To School” efforts, Thanksgiving Dinner give-always and our annual Holiday Shopping spree. These programs will allow us to reach a wider cross-section of children and adolescents in the Metro communities, as well as create opportunities to host a unique variety of events such as Regional and National tournaments.
The KC Sizzlers will intentionally approach the community by offering public speaking appearances at schools, for other sport groups, businesses, and organizations. Basketball is simply a vehicle driven to get our community back.
Being established in the KC Metro area affords the Sizzlers organization an opportunity to reach out and into surrounding communities of people that may not otherwise have the chance to meet and or learn from former collegiate and professional athletes in an up close and personal setting.
