Calvin Thompson

Coach Calvin Thompson, a former Kansas University, Jayhawk (1983-1986), was part of their 1986, Final-4 team. His years as both a player and as a coach at the collegiate and professional levels has provided him the means to promote his passion and commitment to underprivileged youth, grades 3rd through 7th, through his Junior Sizzlers Sports & Education Program.

Supported by years of experience, tradition, and professionalism, Coach Thompson’s, Junior Sizzlers advocates teamwork both on and off the basketball court. His goals include teaching youth the importance of educational and athletic fundamentals, discipline, and hard work. His message also embraces sharing knowledge acquired from his relationships with notable Basketball Hall of Fame coaches Ted Owens, Larry Brown and Hubie Brown.
The Junior Sizzlers program was originally known as Helping Out Other People (HOOP Service) which Thompson established in his hometown of Kansas City, Kansas, after his days of playing *professional basketball. Upon acquiring the KC Sizzlers, he changed the name so as the youth organization could be identified as part of the Sizzlers’ mission |
KC Sizzlers semi-pro basketball team was established in 2017. Coach Thompson serves as the majority owner, head coach, and general manager.
Currently, Coach Thompson is also employed within the Shawnee Mission School District, Overland Park, Kansas.

*In 1986, the New York Knicks selected Thompson in Round 4 (Pick 1) of the NBA draft. After brief stints in camp with the Los Angeles Clippers, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and the San Antonio Spurs, he was the offered a contract by the Houston Rockets and Lyon, France. He chose to venture to France where he played professionally for two years, then another five years in Israel.

Established in 2016, ThreeFive, Inc., is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. It was created to make meaningful contributions to the Kansas City metro region and to help support our sibling organizations, Jr. Sizzlers, youth organization, and the KC Sizzlers semi-pro basketball team. |
